Service Improvements & Updates from 12th April 2026

Service Improvements & Updates from 12 April

From Sunday 12 April 2026, Ipswich Buses will introduce a number of timetable and route updates across parts of our network.

These changes follow a review of service performance and are designed to improve punctuality and reliability, particularly where traffic conditions have made it more difficult for buses to operate consistently.

Most services will continue to operate at the same frequency, with changes mainly focused on timetable adjustments, with some route revisions to help buses run more reliably.

Below is a summary of the changes taking place across the network

Ipswich Town Services

Service 1 (Ipswich Central – John Lewis) – Route Adjustment

Service 1 will operate a slightly revised route and will no longer serve the loop around Sandyhill Lane and Roebuck Road.

Instead, buses will remain on Landseer Road, only leaving the road to loop around the Holbrook Road turning area, continuing to serve the Holbrook Road bus shelter.

This change has been introduced in response to increasing congestion in the area, which has made it more difficult for the service to operate reliably. By slightly shortening the route, buses will be better able to keep to their timetable and operate more consistently.

To maintain access for customers in the area, two new bus stops will be installed at the junction of Sandyhill Lane and Landseer Road.

Service frequency remains unchanged.

Service 2 (Ipswich Central – Ipswich Hospital) – Revised PM Timetable

Running times on Service 2 will be revised during the weekday evening peak to improve punctuality.

From approximately 17:15 onwards (Monday to Saturday), timetable adjustments will help services operate more reliably during busy periods.

Frequency remains unchanged.

Services 93 / 93A (Ipswich – Colchester) – Route Change

Services 93 and 93A will operate via a revised route in Colchester to improve reliability, following ongoing congestion in parts of northern Colchester which has made it difficult for services to operate punctually. The revised routing avoids some of the most heavily congested roads and makes use of the dedicated bus lane on Northern Approach Road, helping services run more consistently.

From Stratford St Mary, buses will operate via:

  • Langham Village – Birchwood Corner, Birchwood Road, St Margarets Cross, Langham School, Shepherd & Dog, Chapel Road
  • Severalls Lane – Cuckoo Point
  • Mill Road – Matchett Drive, Julian Avenue, Maximus Drive, The Water Tower
  • Olympic Boulevard
  • Urbis Romanae
  • Northern Approach Road, serving Colchester General Hospital via the Hospital Pathway bus stops

Buses will serve the hospital via Northern Approach Road instead of Turner Road, before rejoining the existing route from Bruff Close onwards.

Services 93/93A will no longer serve stops on:

  • Ipswich Road – Blakerne Gate, Avellana Place, Bilsale Close
  • Highwoods Approach – Rovers Tye, Highwoods Approach
  • Highclere Road – Langdale Drive
  • Mill Road – Bedford Road, Thornwood, Turner Road
  • Turner Road – Kingwood Road, Wryneck Close, Turner Rise

Revised afternoon departures

Departures from Old Cattle Market Bus Station, Ipswich will change as follows:

  • The 16:45 departure will operate at 16:50

Departures from Colchester, Osborne Street will change as follows:

  • The 18:10 departure will operate at 18:15

The X93 service remains unchanged.

Service 118/119 (Ipswich Central – Framlingham) – Route & Timetable Changes

Services 118 and 119, which operate under contract to Suffolk County Council, will see several updates.

The section of route between Framlingham and Stradbroke will no longer be served by these services. This section will instead be provided by the new Service 482 between Framlingham and Diss, operated by Transport Made Simple and funded through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

Additional changes include:

  • A new 07:00 Service 119 journey from Ipswich to Framlingham
  • A consistent 17:20 return journey in the afternoon, replacing the previous variable return time
  • All journeys serving Swilland Church Lane in both directions
  • Early morning, evening, and Saturday journeys will no longer serve Otley College grounds due to access restrictions

These changes help simplify the route and improve reliability.
