Travel with confidence: new onboard information now available across Ipswich Buses
At Ipswich Buses, we have introduced new onboard passenger information technology across our vehicles to help customers travel with greater confidence.
The new system provides both audio announcements and visual journey information while passengers are on board. This includes information about the route number, destination and upcoming stops, helping customers understand where they are on their journey, where the bus is going and when their stop is approaching.
The onboard system is fitted across our fleet.
Making journeys easier and more accessible
The main purpose of the new equipment is to make our services more accessible for customers who are hard of hearing, visually impaired, blind or partially sighted.
However, the benefits go much further.
Clear onboard information can help remove one of the barriers that some people face when using the bus. It can be particularly useful for customers who are nervous about using public transport, unfamiliar with the local network, new or infrequent bus users, older passengers, students, or visitors to Ipswich.
By providing clear audio and visual updates throughout the journey, the system helps passengers travel more independently and with greater confidence.
Helping more people travel with confidence
We want bus travel to be simple, accessible and welcoming for everyone.
Knowing which bus you are on, where it is going and when your stop is coming up can make a big difference, especially for customers who may feel uncertain about travelling by bus.
The new onboard information system is designed to make journeys clearer and more reassuring, helping more people feel confident using local bus services.
Dan Bassett, Managing Director of Ipswich Buses, said:
“We want everyone to feel confident when travelling with Ipswich Buses, regardless of how often they use our services or their individual accessibility needs.
“As well as supporting customers who are blind, partially sighted, hard of hearing or visually impaired, this technology supports everyone, including those who may be less familiar with bus travel. Ultimately, it is about making journeys easier, more accessible and helping more people travel independently with confidence.”
Supporting better bus services
This upgrade forms part of our ongoing commitment to improving the customer experience and making public transport more accessible.
The upgrade was partly supported by UK government-funded Local Authority Bus Grant funding, awarded through the Suffolk Enhanced Partnership.
